Prototyping, prototyping, prototyping, ...


Good news everyone!

We have a new gameplay prototype and a target art style for you tonight. From this week on we will divide the log into gameplay and artistry, so you can skip to what you're looking forward to!

Gameplay

 The base mechanics are in place! Picking up bombs, running and jumping towards your opponent and throwing are all implemented for your enjoyment!

We have set up the GameManager which is responsible for handling the game states such as LobbyState and MatchState. 

In the MatchState the rounds will be handled. 

At the start of the round a random player gets selected to be the starting attacker, a bomb spawns above the starting player and a timer begins. Every time a player is hit by the bomb that player becomes the new attacker and some extra time is added to the timer. 

When the time is up the bomb begins homing to the last person to be the attacker. 

For now the bomb goes directly to the players location. If the bomb has collided with any player, the round ends and another timer begins after which a new round starts. 

These steps are repeated for the amount of rounds per match. 

In the GameManager the match results are stored which include the amount of lifes of every player,  the rounds played and the player that has lost in every round.

Artistry

Let's start with some exciting news, we decided to go for a modern but simple chibi art style. The main influence for our game's look will be games like pokemon brilliant diamond / shining pearl.


A first priority for me is to get a base layer down so we can paint in some nice textures to build up our environment. Here's a little preview of what that looks like in the editor (these are placeholder textures, we'll get some nicer ones once we go into production):

I talked about wanting to have an inflate effect on our bomb last week, it looks pretty derpy in-editor but I like it :) we have some more pressing matters to work on at the moment, but i look forward to refining it
